‘The Crown’ Season 4 Trailer: Everything You Need to Know

Netflix just dropped their trailer for the long-anticipated fourth season of The Crown. This is the season that finally introduces Princess Diana – played by Emma Corrin - and the scandals and drama surrounding her marriage into the family.

This season marks the end of the 1970s in Britain. Along with nationwide unrest and conflict, the royal family are faced with the task of searching for a suitable match for Prince Charles.

Gillian Anderson makes a smash debut into the series as Margaret Thatcher., coming face to face with Olivia Colman’s Queen Elizabeth. We see the potential tension and dynamic relationship that is sure to unfold between the two women, hearing Prince Philip’s voice echoing: ‘Two women running the shop. That’s the last thing this country needs.’

Thatcher, as the first female prime minister, is the first clue into the modernisation and stepping forward into a future Britain that will dominate this season. Anderson’s performance looks absolutely mesmerising, showing a cold and measured woman who is here to get the job done.

The introduction of Diana is also a key part of the trailer. Fans of this stellar series have been waiting for years to see this storyline unfold. Diana, the ‘people’s princess’, completely changed how the public perceived this family and their establishment in culture. The love triangle between Charles, Camilla and Diana is one of the most scandalous things to have happened within the royal family. Diana’s tragic death in 1997 also marked a huge moment in the history of the UK. Emma Corrin's Diana is uncanny, and as we see clips flash of her rollerblading through the Palace and reactions from the older women of the family – If she will not bend, she will break – it brought me goosebumps.

The culmination of the first female prime minister in this season with the introduction of Diana marks the new era the show is taking us into. This is when everything truly changed for the royal family, leading up to the way in which we know it today. Colman’s Queen Elizabeth appears steely but nervous against the new world that is crashing down around her, and this theme of change will certainly be a major part of season four.

The Crown series four premiers November 15th. You can watch the trailer here.
